Iron Man’s Suit is still many years from reality

I found this article on Wired via Digg and wanted to post about it. If you are hoping to one day don a metal suit and fly around through the sky like Iron Man then prepare to be disappointed. According to the article the energy requirements needed to put a person in the air and then fly around are simply too great to be supplied by the small suit with present day technology. One can only hope that those evil genuises / scientists work faster so we can get our sweet Iron Man suits.

The article did say that one feature of the suit that isn’t so much fiction is the cybernetic helmet and similar technology is already being developed.

After seeing Iron Man I can say that I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. In my opinion it was one of the best super hero movies that has been made yet. It was definitely on par with the first Spider Man. The only qualm I have is that there was just a bit to little screen time of Stark in the actual suit, but there is a fine line between too much CGI effects and too little story and I think Iron Man got the mix right. Speaking of CGI, I thought the effects were absolutely stunning. The scenes of the suit looked extremely realistic and I was particularly impressed with the impression of physics that the artists added to the imagery. The suit looked visually heavy on screen whereas in some CGI everything looks weightless this was not the case in Iron Man. I want to see it again.
