In order to reduce the amount of spam the site gets it is now neccessary to login to the site before you can post a comment. There are two ways you can login to the site. The first way is by creating an account on the site. The second way is by logging in with your Facebook account through a new service called Facebook connect. The Facebook connect login is easier because you don’t have to create a seperate login just for my lowly site and it also has the added benefit of attaching your Facebook profile picture to your comments, which I think is pretty cool. You can read more about Facebook connect here. I enabled this capability earlier today, but unfortunately it wasn’t working in IE until a few momements ago so sorry to Moose who had to create a seperate account.

Contact Me
I had to change my contact page because my cfoms plugin is throwing tons of 404 errors for some gifs that I know are there so I disabled it. If you want to contact me feel free to email me: marcus (at) marcusmccurdy (dot) com

Work complete!
The upgrade to Wordpress 2.6 went smoothly and is complete. Now I just have to update the other two blogs I manage and update all the plugins.

Upgrading to Wordpress 2.6
I’ll be upgrading to Wordpress 2.6 today so the site may be inaccessible temporarily during the upgrade. I’m going to try doing it now since traffic should be pretty light.

All your servers are belong to media temple
Everything has been switched over to the new media temple server and is working great. The only hiccup I had was that I needed to change my .htaccess file slightly due to the different server configuration, but everything is copacetic now.

I’m a Go Daddy switcher
The servers are too slow!
I’ve decided to switch hosting from Go Daddy to Media Temple. Go daddy is just too slow. I’m not sure if it is the database server that is causing my wordpress to be unacceptably slow or if I just got stuck on a bad shared hosting server e.g. someone else is bogging the server down. Hopefully there will be no downtime as I’ve already transfered everything over and the only thing I have to do now is change my DNS information. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
I’ve read many posts complaining about Go Daddy’s support, but I haven’t had to use their support for anything. They are very economical, but when the server is so slow that the page times out when you try to make a post that just isn’t acceptable.
